Transferring assets
Transferring an online store
Store ownership, domain, products, suppliers, payment and ad accounts, email lists and social profiles.
On this page
An online store’s value is in its products, suppliers and customers. Make sure all of it changes hands.
What to move
- The store — on Shopify and similar platforms, the store ownership can be transferred to the buyer’s account in the admin. For self-hosted stores, move the site like a website.
- The domain.
- Products, images and descriptions — usually part of the store.
- Suppliers and fulfilment — contacts, agreements and apps. Introduce the buyer to key suppliers.
- Payments — the buyer connects their own payment provider and bank account.
- Ad accounts and pixels — ad accounts often cannot be transferred; the buyer sets up their own and the seller shares audiences where allowed.
- Email list and customers — export and import them, respecting privacy rules.
- Social profiles — see Transferring a social media account.
A proven order
- The buyer prepares their accounts (payments, email, ads).
- Store ownership moves; the buyer connects their payment provider.
- Suppliers and apps are handed over.
- The domain and social profiles move.
- The seller’s staff accounts and access are removed.
Open orders
Agree who handles orders that are open at the moment of transfer, and until which date income belongs to whom. Put it in the terms.
Tip: Place a test order after the transfer to check the whole flow — payment, email confirmation and fulfilment.
